People love coupons, in fact one site reports that anywhere for 81%-96% of Americans report using coupons. If that is the case we are in the minority, but why? Clipping coupons is usually the first thing that comes to mind when people think of saving on the grocery budget. Why don’t we use them more? Continue reading “Why my kids don’t allow couponing”

Did you know we are on Yummly? #recipes
Have you ever heard of Yummly?
Have you ever wanted to save a link to a recipe you wanted to try? It’s kind of a hassle to do it in your browser. With Yummly it is really simple just look for the ‘Yum button’ on the post and click it and save it to your own collection. I just installed a button on my site. You’ll find it at the bottom of each post. Even if the site doesn’t have such a button you have the option of installing a button on your favorite browser too. This allows you to capture links to just about any recipe you find on the web. NICE.
Its a really great application for capturing recipes you find on the web, actually one of the top. I’ve been using it for some time to capture recipes from all of the web. Other sites exist to do similar things but Yummly is purpose built for recipes and has a great community to go along with it. It is the only one I have found that allows you to include or exclude specific ingredients and perform searches according to your particular diet preferences.
Recently, though I found out that it is possible to become a ‘publisher.’ Hopefully by doing so it will make it easier for those outside the WordPress community to find the recipe’s you and I have found so enjoyable.
The Right Spice — Your Kitchen Prescription
When we first started cooking we received a wonderful give of a spice rack fully loaded (actually a couple of them).
They were a loving and wonderful gift. Albeit, completely mysterious. It might as well have been an alchemists chemistry set.
As nice as it was it didn’t tell us what spice goes with what cuisine.
Take a look at this wonderful article for a nice beginners guide to spices Continue reading “The Right Spice — Your Kitchen Prescription”

How to get Vitamin D #healthyliving
A little over a year ago I discovered a spot behind my ear. That spot turned out to be basal cell carcinoma. It’s probably the most common form of skin cancer. Though if you are going to have to get skin cancer this would be the one. It’s fairly easily treated and generally doesn’t spread. So for me it was really a non event.
Still Tuesday I had a follow-up with my dermatologist. Well, only minutes into my visit the doctor notice a mild tan line on my legs. And so it started, my scolding. ‘YOUR NOT USING SUN SCREEN.’ Then she spied my arms. Much darker tan lines. The Dr.’s Voice went up now.
This brings me to the point of this post. How do you get vitamin D? Continue reading “How to get Vitamin D #healthyliving”

Can spicy food improve your health #healthyliving
Recently I was reading an article posted on Sniperhorizon. In this article the author states that eating hot foods has some rather amazing health benefits. The title alone drew me in, Spicy food changes your brain and health. So I had to read. After all, I love hot foods and I am the curious sort. Two rather amazing claims were made in the article.

Yesterday (6/13/2016) Natascha from Natascha’s Palace posted a fantastic recipe

for Fish escabeche (Hot marinated fish) for our Latin week (week starting 6/19/2016).
Natascha is a Canadian English teacher living in Spain. Cooking is her hobby! She also has her own blog that we follow, Natascha’s Palace, where she posts many other delicious recipes. You should give her site a visit.
We had a lot of fun getting everything together for the post. I’m looking forward to trying the dish.
