Bistec Encebollado – Steak and Onions

Bistec Encebollado

This is a classic Puerto Rican Dish. If that is your kind of food, than you will definitely want to try this recipe

Ingredients

4 each steak, thin center cut
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 large onion, thinly sliced
1 1/3 tablespoons oil
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions
  1. In a bowl, season filets with garlic, cumin, oregano, and salt.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium high. Add filets.
  3. Cover for 15 minutes.
  4. Turn filets over and saute until cooked and caramelized.
  5. Add onions and 1/2 cup water and cover for 5 minutes.
  6. Serve with rice.

Note: The recipe calls for adding the onions, implying that you put them on top of the steaks and then add the water to steam the onions. We found it would be better to remove the steaks, deglaze the pan, and then add the onions to the pan. If the steaks need finishing then place them on top of the onions cover and finish.
